Job Description: Crop Care, a Pest Control Business working with Christensen & Giannini, LLC (a grower), operates in Monterey County covering 2800 acres of vegetables. Crop Care is seeking a Pest Control Advisor to advise and oversee the pest control business while utilizing sound Integrated Pest Management practices in organic and conventional vegetable production.

The Pest Control Advisor oversees all scouting, pest monitoring, and sampling activities to ensure accurate field intelligence and effective integrated pest management. This role develops pest control recommendations, evaluates pest pressure trends, and ensures full compliance with California DPR regulations. The Pest Control Advisor serves as a primary liaison between applicators and ranch managers, coordinating treatment strategies, and supporting timely, informed decisions that protect crop health and optimize field operations.

Education & Experience

  • Valid California Agricultural Pest Control Adviser (PCA) License is required.
  • 3-5 years of experience in vegetable industry is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Sciences or related field.
  • Valid Driver’s License with a clean DMV driving record and meet insurance requirements is required.

Duties, Qualifications, & Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Thorough knowledge of agricultural pests and their control in organic and conventional systems, required.
  • Must have strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management.
  • Attention to detail, thoroughness, and good analytical skills are a must.
  • Must be available for periodic night calls to guide night foreman.
  • Computer literate with good working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite software and ability to learn internal record keeping and data collection software.
  • Knowledge of agricultural production methods, pest and beneficial insect identification, pesticide use, fertilizer management, and product label interpretation.
  • Understanding of pesticide selection based on crop destination, residue limits, and California DPR regulatory requirements.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Fluency in Spanish desirable.
  • Strong leadership abilities with experience supervising, motivating, and guiding field teams.
  • Excellent judgment and decision-making skills for pest identification, treatment strategies, and field-level problem solving.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced farming environment.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills for conveying scouting results, analyses, and recommendations.
  • Ability to work variable schedules during the Salinas season in outdoor  farming conditions to support operational needs.

Summary
This Simplot Grower Solutions role provides customer service to growers through the sale of crop nutrition, crop protection, seed, specialty, technology and other agronomic products and consultative services. The role is led under the general direction of the Area Sales Manager, who provides support and leadership to all Crop Advisors within specifically recognized agronomic geographies to achieve the Company’s financial goals and operational objectives.

Key Responsibilities
Promote and live the Simplot brand as the best-in-class Agricultural distributor. Grow new business and manage a customer base within a defined area to meet and exceed area sales and profitability goals and gross margin targets.
Seek out product and service opportunities for current customers that enhance both Simplot and the customer’s bottom line. Market products to growers by initiating sales calls, providing advice and consultative services, and monitoring individualized agronomic programs in respect to use of crop protection, crop nutrition, seed, specialty, technology and other related areas. Emphasize and sell proprietary products where appropriate to maximize profitability.
Collaborate with other Crop Advisors, as directed by Region Managers and/or Market Managers, to increase knowledge, develop sales, marketing, manage customer relationships and increase profits in the Sales Area.
Regularly interface with the Region Manager and Market Manager to execute market strategies, report sales trends and competitor activities, as well as opportunities and challenges in the geography.
Ensure adequate follow-through in regards to operational aspects of the business such as delivery, application and billing are handled appropriately. Regularly and reliably communicate with operations to ensure strong performance in delivery and service outcomes.
Maintain customer agronomic records, assist in establishing customer financial records and collaborate with the Area Financial Services Manager in the establishment of credit and resolution of credit matters.

Typical Education
Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) from 4 year college or university is preferred (Equivalent experience of education and experience will be considered for meeting the minimum requirements of the role).

Relevant Experience
Established book-of-business is highly desired.
1-3 years of similar experience in the industry is required.
Required computer skills include knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel and Outlook.
Demonstrated focus on meeting customer expectations and working to deliver excellent customer service.
Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with management, other team members, and customers.
Must be self-driven, self-motivated, and customer service-oriented, while being an effective team player.
PCA is Required.
CCA is preferred.
Required Certifications
Valid Driver’s License is required.
