Position Title: Agronomist – Northern CA

Job Description: The AGRIntelligence (AI) Agronomist leads efforts to utilize data collected through AGRIntelligence to make the most advantageous recommendations to Helena customers, including fertility/nutrient recommendations, irrigation recommendations, and cultural practices. This position is also responsible for providing training to location sales teams to help them develop both basic and advanced agronomic knowledge so they can interpret and utilize AGRIntelligence data effectively for Helena customers.

This role also collaborates with other Helena team members to guide and develop new markets for Helena’s many areas of business including Helena Products Group (HPG), seed, fertilizer and other third-party products specifically utilizing AGRIntelligence to help solve customers’ agronomic problems.

 

Duties, Qualifications, & Requirements:

WHAT YOUR DAY WILL LOOK LIKE
  • Works with Sales Representatives, the AGRIntelligence team, HPG Client Service Team and Helena Product Managers to develop sound agronomic fertility programs in their territories.
  • Plans and presents at agronomic meetings to sales locations and customers to demonstrate the value of AGRIntelligence data and how this data can help position solutions using Helena products and services.
  • Maintains current information resources by attending agronomic seminars to develop a network of university and industry contacts.
  • Cross trains with HPG, seed and the AGRIntelligence team on agronomy practices and highlights the value of AGRIntelligence products, services and data to provide to Helena customers.
  • Works with the AGRIntelligence Agronomy BU Manager, National Agronomist and AGRIntelligence Technical Agronomist to update soil fertility equations and tissue sufficiency ranges as needed.
  • Assists in setting up research and demonstration plots related to seed, HPG and fertilizer; especially when plots have AI data.
  • Keeps up with advancements in the precision ag/ information management industry including collaborating with National Agronomist in field testing new tools and technology.
  • Collaborates with other Agronomists across the company, the National Agronomist, and Technical Agronomist to develop training materials and new reports/tools for AI.
  • Integrates AGRIntelligence, agronomy, HPG, fertilizer and seed into sales programs.
  • Works with Fertilizer Managers to share data insights and highlight potential fertilizer opportunities.
  • Will be required to drive a company vehicle.
  • Provides excellent customer service to all internal and external customers.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in an agricultural science discipline is required.
  • Five years of experience in sales or agronomic consulting is required.
  • Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Certification as a Certified Crop Advisor (or working toward certification) is required.
  • Pest Control Advisor license (based on territory). This position is located in California, so it is required.

Summary
This Simplot Grower Solutions role provides customer service to growers through the sale of crop nutrition, crop protection, seed, specialty, technology and other agronomic products and consultative services. The role is led under the general direction of the Area Sales Manager, who provides support and leadership to all Crop Advisors within specifically recognized agronomic geographies to achieve the Company’s financial goals and operational objectives.

Key Responsibilities
Promote and live the Simplot brand as the best-in-class Agricultural distributor. Grow new business and manage a customer base within a defined area to meet and exceed area sales and profitability goals and gross margin targets.
Seek out product and service opportunities for current customers that enhance both Simplot and the customer’s bottom line. Market products to growers by initiating sales calls, providing advice and consultative services, and monitoring individualized agronomic programs in respect to use of crop protection, crop nutrition, seed, specialty, technology and other related areas. Emphasize and sell proprietary products where appropriate to maximize profitability.
Collaborate with other Crop Advisors, as directed by Region Managers and/or Market Managers, to increase knowledge, develop sales, marketing, manage customer relationships and increase profits in the Sales Area.
Regularly interface with the Region Manager and Market Manager to execute market strategies, report sales trends and competitor activities, as well as opportunities and challenges in the geography.
Ensure adequate follow-through in regards to operational aspects of the business such as delivery, application and billing are handled appropriately. Regularly and reliably communicate with operations to ensure strong performance in delivery and service outcomes.
Maintain customer agronomic records, assist in establishing customer financial records and collaborate with the Area Financial Services Manager in the establishment of credit and resolution of credit matters.

Typical Education
Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) from 4 year college or university is preferred (Equivalent experience of education and experience will be considered for meeting the minimum requirements of the role).

Relevant Experience
Established book-of-business is highly desired.
1-3 years of similar experience in the industry is required.
Required computer skills include knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel and Outlook.
Demonstrated focus on meeting customer expectations and working to deliver excellent customer service.
Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with management, other team members, and customers.
Must be self-driven, self-motivated, and customer service-oriented, while being an effective team player.
PCA is Required.
CCA is preferred.
Required Certifications
Valid Driver’s License is required.
