History

As a part of the CAPCA Forward Committee, the Crop Teams concept was introduced in 2014 with Crop Team Champions taking the charge of networking and creating the Crop Teams Concept. In 2015, Crop Team Champions developed a team charter, business plans and moved out from under the CAPCA Forward Committee to be a standalone initiative. The goal of the Crop Teams in 2016 is to engage PCAs by crop commodity across the state in a network of shared communication to raise the level of professionalism, share information and increase response (time and action) rate to disease/pests that threaten California Ag.

The Crop Teams were developed to be available to all stakeholders and to provide a cadre of PCA experts within the crop team classification that are involved (boots-on-the-ground), knowledgeable and interact daily about the specific crop.

Our teams will address critical topics, discover and share best practices performed in different environments around the state, and articulate the value of the issues and practices for solving problems to benefit the audience.

Our teams will be working to help others understand the PCA’s role, training, professionalism, and perspective and formulate appropriate strategic action between PCAs and other segments of the industry.

Working from within CAPCA, the teams will develop communication and outreach through venues such as:
  • CAPCA ED, Chapter seminars and other industry relevant venues to articulate issues and solutions to the PCA and other professionals in the pest management industry.
  • Representing CAPCA on advisory committees, panels and discussion groups in their field of expertise.
  • Providing mentoring and advice for fellow PCAs. Drawing on the experience of tenured PCAs to mentor a new generation of advisers and articulate the value of the profession.
  • Email communication focusing more on risk/issues management to be part of the solution and exercise role of the first responder.
